Jakarta. The North Jakarta District Court on Wednesday (04/04) accepted embattled former Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama’s divorce petition against his wife Veronica Tan and granted him custody rights over the couple's two underage children.
The judges granted Ahok custody his two youngest children, Nathania Berniece Zhong and Daud Albeener Purnama, as reported by Suara Pembaruan.
"The plaintiff has been granted custody of the children who are underage, Nathania and Daud," chief judge Sutaji said during the hearing.
The couple's eldest child, Nicholas Sean Purnama, is of age and therefore will determine his own custody.
The judges found adequate proof of Veronica’s infidelity, which had been the basis of the divorce petition filed earlier in January.
"This is proof that the infidelity occurred. We didn’t make this story up, and it has been happening for a while," said Fify Lety Indra, Ahok’s lawyer and sister.
The former governor is still serving a two-year prison sentence for blasphemy, which started on May 9 last year. Veronica will look after the children until Ahok is released from prison.
