Silangit International Airport Records Nearly 3,000 Flights

Jakarta. Activity at Silangit International Airport in Tapanuli, North Sumatra, has increased since its rapid development this year, the Ministry of Tourisma said in a statement on Sunday (03/12).

The airport has recorded 2,912 aircraft movements in the third quarter of 2017, an increase of 29 percent from the same period last year.

“Since President Joko Widodo declared the pioneering airport to become a commercial airport in 2016, the development has been very significant thus we welcome more flights,” Agus Santoso, civil aviation director at the Ministry of Transportation, said in the statement.

Agus added there is an average of 14 movements per day, both in domestic and international flights. The planes mostly consist of 96-seater Bombardier CRJ1000 and 180-seater Airbus A320-200.

The latest flight addition to the airport is Jakarta-Silangit flight route by Batik Air, Lion Air Group's full-service airline.

The airport targets to welcome 250,000 passengers by the end of the year, an increase of 60 percent from last year’s number.
